Plastics are everywhere and have many uses. However, plastics can be harmful to the environment through their manufacturing process and waste. Plastics can also contain chemicals that can get into your body if you use them with food. You can protect yourself and kids by:

  • Reheating leftovers in glass or ceramic containers
  • Storing hot food in glass or ceramic containers
  • Using beeswax wraps
  • For storage of toys, opting for recycling symbols 1, 2, 4, and 5. Avoiding 3, 6, and 7
  • Choosing toys that are labeled “PVC free”, “phthalate free”, or “BPA free”
  • Avoiding toys made from vinyl or PVC
  • Checking to ensure toys have not been recalled

You can reduce the amount of plastic you use by:

  • Carrying re-usable cloth bags when shopping
  • Refusing the straw (or bring your own)
  • Bring a reusable mug. Many coffee shops will give you a discount!
